Drake in DC

Photos Part 2

Alan Fox watches the nomination hearing for President-Elect Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, Pam Bondi. Drake students were seated in box seats above the hearing room, with a bird’s-eye view of the proceedings. Thank you to Sen. Charles Grassley and his staff for the opportunity.

From left to right, Mitch Davis, Torin Johnson, Senator John Fetterman, and Alan Fox. We ran into Sen. Fetterman while making the rounds checking on inauguration tickets in the Russell Senate Office Building.

Miguel Abellan (left) with Colin Timmerman (right). Abellan and Timmerman are in the same fraternity, SAE, and bonded over foreign affairs and careers at the Department of Defence. Timmerman introduced Abellan to potential jobs and internships the government has and is excited to reconnect once he gets back to Des Moines.

Pictured is Pam Bondi being questioned by members of the Senate for the position of U.S. Attorney General. For all of us, it was really interesting to see this unfold. We often see it on TV, but to be there in person was completely different.

Eli Benson and Miguel Abellan in front of the U.S. Capitol Building. Eli and Miguel knew each other from fraternity rush last year but never got to know each other on a personal level. After being roommates for this trip Eli and Miguel have gotten to know each other a lot more and are excited about the new connection they’ve made.

Wolf Blitzer (on left) and Fran Conner (on right) met after the DC group’s site visit at CNN. While the group was getting their photo taken, Blitzer walked into the crowd and asked if he could be in the photo too. Everyone was so pleasantly surprised!

Peace activist, writer and author Medea Benjamin (on left) and Fran after viewing the Senate confirmation hearing for nominated U.S. district attorney Pam Bondi. Medea along with her group of feminist activists associated with “Code Pink” were there to exercise their right to petition against Marco Rubio’s confirmation hearing.

From left to right, Alan Fox, Mitch Davis, Fran Conner, and Hannah Goldsmith wait in the cold early morning to get a chance to view two Supreme Court oral arguments. This was their second attempt as their first try was not successful. Slow and steady wins the race!

While visiting the Smithsonian National Museum of American History, Cassie Contreras-Franco explored their “Latinas Report Breaking News” exhibit. This particular part of the exhibit highlighted the Latina journalists who have influenced the field and have achieved worldwide recognition. This exhibit was bilingual and the sign above translates to “Breaking News! Latinas Report Breaking News.”

This image showcases an eye opening exhibit at the United States National Holocaust Museum where there are a number of photographs of Jewish families during that era.
